That Country Feeling

The countryside is a place even the most urban people crave. The clean air, the lush landscape, the quiet surroundings have visitors feeling like they've entered another dimension. After a couple of good night sleeps, some long walks along a paved trail, a swim in the fresh cold lake, and some great, organic meals they leave feeling refreshed and relaxed, ready to take on the world again.

Why you have to go:

Working, living and rushing around a congested city all the time is exhausting. More than exhausting, it puts a lot of wear and tear on your body - sitting in crowded tubes, inhaling pollution, sleeping through honking horns and loud neighbours, and feeling like the moment you close your eyes your alarm goes off again and it's time to wake up and do it all over again. Escaping all of that for as little a day and taking a nice drive along a country road, with the windows down, the radio on and fresh air in your nose is not only luxurious but completely necessary.

Where you have to go:

Depending on where you live in the world the countryside will vary. If you live in Milan, you might decide to take off to Tuscany for a long weekend. There you can go for bike rides, eat delicious meals in the garden and visit the homes of local artisans in the day. If you live in Toronto, you'll probably want to escape to Muskoka in the summer. Muskoka is built on a few lakes and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful homes in Canada's countryside. If you live in Geneva, you might choose to head up to the mountains for the weekend. In the winter you can of course ski, but in the summer you can enjoy long walks, dinners on the terrace and some deliciously comfortable sleeps.

When you have to go:

Some regions of countryside such as the Swiss Alps are beautiful in the summer but most desirable in the winter, While other regions such as Muskoka, offer little to do in the winter. A chalet or cottage will always offer a place to escape and enjoy some relaxation, but they might not offer much more than that. If you are looking to do sport or engage in some sort of outdoor activity than you might want to choose where you go in the country and when appropriately.

No matter what it is an escape, which most of the time, is all we really need.
